Members of the faith community and the LGBT community
debate religion and homosexuality over dinner

Synopsis of Ten Angry Kin

Tasha grew up in a very religious home. A month ago her mother visited her on campus, and Tasha came out the closet. After a very intense argument her mother left and hasn’t spoken to Tasha since. Tasha’s uncle, the consummate mediator, calls the family together for Sunday dinner, hoping to facilitate reconciliation between Tasha and her mom.

The film starts with the family gathered at the dinner table. What ensues is a long, provocative, frustrating, informative, heart-felt and challenging debate about homosexuality. They discuss various biblical, scientific and social perspectives on the topic, noting clinical research, biblical exegesis, testimonials, anecdotal evidence, personal experience and observation, history, etc….

This dining room is ground zero for an epic clash, an unflinching, no-holds-barred, relentless confrontation between members of the faith community and members and allies of the LGBT community. This is no fairy tale. It is an accurate representation of the real world. It is an honest depiction and examination of people’s attitudes, thoughts and feelings. It is also a challenge to those attitudes, thoughts and feelings, with everyone pointing to what they believe are the other side’s contradictions, hypocrisy and inconsistency, highlighting all the “don’t add ups” in the other camp. To call this a family drama is an understatement. It is more than drama. It is a controversial, life-changing, thought-provoking, ideology-shattering game changer. Whatever you believe (or think you know) will be challenged to the utmost. Everyone will be compelled to examine themselves and reconsider much of whatever they consider to be true.

The Impact

This topic has produced an impasse between the LGBT community and various religious communities. These groups are very often sharply divided around questions about morality, equality, legality, tolerance, acceptance, free speech, tradition, religious freedom, etc…. This debate is scientific, ideological, spiritual, political and personal. Many are reluctant to publicly express their views on the topic. This film will open the lines of public communication. It encourages honest, open and productive dialogue. This film shines a light on ideas and sentiments that are often only spoken behind closed doors in the safety of trusted, like-minded company. It divulges and digests questions and concerns that are hidden in the secluded recesses of our minds. And it reveals information that is frequently left out of public discourse. This film will inspire people in ALL communities to be honest and bold, yet humble, respectful and open-minded when addressing this very important topic.
