Where Charity Began

[black history documentary]
An african american man journeys home to his roots in Virginia in search of confirmation that his family is one of America's oldest and that he might be a direct descendant of the first Africans to arrive on these shores in August 1619.

My name is Antonio D. Charity. I am from a small town in rural Virginia called Surry County. Surry is located directly across the James River from Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg. My family has been living as free people in Surry since the 1600's, before the American Revolution and about 200 years before the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation. Research shows that the Charity family is one of the oldest families in America and that the Charity family is perhaps directly descended from some of the first "twenty and odd Africans" that arrived in VA in August of 1619. This documentary will establish definitively the age and origin of the Charity family of Surry County.
